The exaggeration of newscasters

Why do newscasters exaggerate so much??

Ok it's raining in California. We had about 2 inches total. That's nothing. Yes there was some damage, but it's the same as when it rains hard anywhere. People drive dumb and get in accidents, houses that are poorly kept collapse, but it's not like hundreds of houses collapsed, or hundreds of people died. One died, out of all the people in this city, only one. And it sounded like the guy was thinking his SUV was a submarine and tried to drive thru the river. CRAZY!

I'm enjoying the rain and think I will go jump in the puddles!!
